Using photos you provide I create a unique and lasting gift for your customer who has lost an animal companion, to share your sympathy, to help them move through grief, and have a tangible and durable remembrance.
I focus on the subject’s face, positioned so that the flickering tea light candle illuminates and seemingly animates their face, especially their eyes. During the day the votive captures ambient light even without the candle, but in the evening, when the candle is lit, the flickering light through your pet’s face in a darkened area is warm and intimate. Watch the video below to see Luna’s face come to light.

Note: The sample votives you see here were either ordered by one friend to give to another and both parties gave me permission to share the images, or were ordered by someone for their own use, or votives I made as gifts, and the recipient gave me permission to use their votive as a sample. I never use any image of a custom item without permission.
A Quick Introduction to Custom Pet Memorial Votives
I make each Custom Pet Memorial Votive by hand with love and sympathy on the loss of a precious companion.
And they also make unique customized gifts even when they aren’t in sympathy for a loss.
Here is a quick outline of how votives are ordered, made and shipped, and customizations possible for your practice or business.
You can upload a photo or photos when you order your votive or email them soon after.
I prepare that photo to fit the 3″ cube-shaped glass vase, print the design onto a waterproof frosted vinyl label, then wrap it around the vase and burnish it onto the surface.
Standard with each votive
I use my skills as an artist in traditional media and on computer to remove backgrounds, touch up lighting and composition, and add a background color or pattern that complements the subject.
The votive can be used with a wax candle but I provide an LED tea light with each votive to help keep curious noses and waving tails safe.
Your choice of a sympathy card is also included. If I am to ship directly to the recipient you can give me a note which I will write inside the card.
The price includes shipping, whether to your practice or drop-shipped to a customer, within the continental US. I have rates for international shipping.
I include a care and use card with each votive. This card, and a label on the bottom of the votive, have a link to this website.
Adding an extra subject on the front or on the sides, adding a special background pattern like a favorite blanket or chair are extra, or text or a logo are extra, but usually add an extra $10 per addition.
Votives are kept in confidence
I photograph each votive I make for my records and to keep the details of what it looked like for my reference. I never use a votive in any public venue, whether for display or self-promotion, without permission of both the giver and the recipient.

I make several other customized and non-customized gifts, some intended for sympathy and remembrance, and some simply as gifts for animal lovers that can be used as remembrances.
From custom garden flags to decorated and embellished vintage cigar boxes made into keepsake boxes, votives made from upcycled glass jars, jewelry, accessories and artwork, all inspired by animals and nature, I am stocked with gift items to choose from for animal lovers.
Inspired by my own losses, my animal sympathy cards focus on the joy of life with animal companions.
As an artist I turn my emotions into creative output. Thus it is with the grief I’ve felt at the losses of my cats through the years. After receiving many sympathy cards I realized that not too many are focused on the loss of an animal companion, and even fewer on cats in particular. I vowed to create a line of sympathy cards drawn on my own experiences that would feature photos and paintings of my cats and others’ animal companions as well as artwork and photos not focused on any species.
They may be prizewinners or bedraggled street survivors, but no matter—each is precious and fills our lives with joy.
Working from your photographs, your custom portrait can include one or more pets and even family members (I do people, too), in pastel, pencil, pen and ink, watercolor or colored pencil. With decades of experience as a fine artist and a commercial artist and illustrator I can work to create the scene you want, “the photo you never managed to catch,” or a grouping of pets through time, though they may have never lived together.
I have an extensive amount of information, samples and reviews on my retail e-commerce website already, so I’m going to send you over there to learn more about my portraits. Please contact me if you have any questions. Go to Commissioned Animal Portraits on www.PortraitsOfAnimals.net.
